Congressman Adam Schiff threatened to investigate any of his Republican colleagues who take any actions against the Ukraine call whistleblower.
Rep. Schiff, who is heading the Democrat impeachment probe into President Trump, said he is essentially banning Republicans from doing anything he perceives to “threaten, intimidate, or retaliate against the whistle-blower”.
Adam Shiff used the obscure definition of the House official Code of Official Conduct for Members of Congress, which requires that Congresspeople “shall reflect creditably on the House.”
Schiff went on to declare:
“The Committee on Ethics has historically viewed this provision as ‘encompassing violations of law and abuses of one’s official position’.”
In the same memo outlining the hearing rules, Schiff also wrote:
“It is important to underscore that the House’s impeachment inquiry, and the Committee, will not serve as venues for any Member to further the same sham investigations into the Bidens or into debunked conspiracies about 2016 U.S. election interference that President Trump pressed Ukraine to undertake for his personal political benefit.”
Despite this claim of integrity, Adam Schiff and Nancy Pelosi frequently push the actually debunked conspiracy that President Donald Trump colluded with Russia in 2016. This conspiracy was disproven by a massive probe by Robert Mueller and the FBI.
Adam Schiff was also incorrect in his assertion that the Bidens did not use quid-pro-quo in Ukraine for their own benefits, as can be seen in this video of Joe Biden admitting to it while he was still Vice President.
Schiff also referenced the Intelligence Operation Act of 2010 and the Intelligence Community Whistleblower Protection Act, asserting that they provide extra protection to members of the intelligence community.
It has been asserted by the New York Times that the whistleblower is a current CIA agent.
Schiff notably referred to the whistleblower as “courageous” for taking action against President Trump in his official congressional memo, adding to doubts on his ability to lead a non-partisan investigation into the President.
Schiff has already been criticized for lying publicly about the fact that his office had direct contact with the whistleblower before he ever filed his report. While Schiff claims he simply misspoke, the Washington Post called his statement a lie. The whistleblower, who is a Registered Democrat himself, also ignored a piece of the official whistleblower form that asked if he had any contact with politicians or their staffs before filing.
Republicans have demanded that Democrats make people like Hunter Biden, Joe Biden, the whistleblower, and Adam Schiff himself testify for their direct roles in the current probe. So far, Democrats have blocked all of these requests.
